WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

This position is the supervisor for the Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Public Information Request & Research Unit’s (PIRRU) Mobile Audio and Video Recording Equipment team (MAVR). Under general supervision of the PIRRU’s Research Analyst 4, this position will serve as the supervisor of the team and will be the subject matter expert on body-worn camera (BWC) and MAVR requests.

This team handles public records release management and in-depth research and analysis relating to public record requests. The incumbent is responsible for the oversight, assessment, maintenance, continuous improvement, and overall effectiveness of the team. The incumbent serves as the subject matter expert on complex audio, video, and BWC requests to ensure that DPS lawfully fulfills public information requests and advises the Research Analyst 4 on policy, statute or legislative implication of requests and/or findings.

*This position involves reviewing and processing incident files; photo, audio, and video evidence involving sexual assault, sexual abuse of minors, assault, suicide, homicides, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

Communications and Media: Knowledge of the production, communication and dissemination of information and ideas to inform and entertain via written, oral, visual media and social media.

External Awareness: Understands and keeps up-to-date on local, national, and international policies and trends that affect the organization and shape stakeholders' views; is aware of the organization's impact on the external environment.

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in journalism, communications media, education, English, literature, fine arts, library science, radio, television, photography, advertising, marketing, sales, public relations and/or promotional work, freelance writing, technical writing and/or research, education, library work or other information dissemination field.

“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
