The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation Denali District is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 1 / 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Base salary for: Equipment Operator Journey 1 - $31.85 / Hourly (OT Eligible) Equipment Operator Journey 2 - $33.71 / Hourly (OT Eligible) What you will be doing: As part of a dedicated maintenance crew, this position helps keep State highways and airports safe and operational year-round. Duties include operating and maintaining heavy and light equipment, maintaining roads, vegetation, signs, bridges, culverts, drainage structures, bike paths, and other State right-of-way assets, as well as performing traffic control and flagging. This position performs work across a variety of maintenance activities and may require shift work. Essential Core Competencies: Knowledge of equipment functions; equipment use appropriate to specific conditions and assignment; appropriate use of construction, maintenance, agricultural or other chemicals and materials; hazardous materials regulations; and safety regulations and practices related to equipment use and operation. Applicable skill in operation of specific equipment. Ability to set up the operation of equipment proficiently and safely operate equipment; maintain and communicate situation awareness; take appropriate action to prevent damage; perform equipment safety checks and identify inspection points; observe the job environment and conditions; read and understand regulations related to the work; follow instructions; work cooperatively and effectively as a team member; and react effectively in emergency and disaster situations.
