The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region, is looking for an Engineer/Architect 4 (Central Region Chief of Contracts) in Anchorage to help us

Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing:

This position serves as a Regional Group Chief, responsible for overseeing the work of the regional contracting group for capital construction projects. The role provides engineering, technical, and administrative guidance to the Central Regional Design, Construction, Planning, and Maintenance Section; the Division of Facilities Services; Statewide Design and Engineering; and Anchorage International Airport staff in the review, advertising, bidding, and award of all formal construction contracts. The position also manages the development, advertising, selection, negotiation, and award of Professional Services Agreements for architectural and engineering services, as well as other professional services.

The Group Chief acts as the regional staff advisor to Statewide Design & Engineering and the Chief Contracting Officer in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, specifications, and manuals related to construction and contracting, including the AASHTOWare Project (AWP) and Bid Express electronic bidding systems.

The Central Region Contracts Section is responsible for drafting, reviewing the advertisement, and awarding transportation related contracts for the design, construction, maintenance and operations of highway, aviation, and public facilities. Your role in this position is integral to the Department's successful delivery of our program.

The working environment you can expect:

This position is located at the Central Region Headquarters building by Lake Hood, the world's busiest seaplane base. You will have a private office. Lake Hood is surrounded by a walking/biking trail where employees can be spotted during lunch break.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Alaska.

Minimum Qualifications

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and six years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer/Architect series), of which three years were in a supervisory or project manager capacity as an Engineer/Architect 2 or higher or the equivalent.

Special Note:

Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this agreement must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Positions in this class require registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Permanent employment status is defined as holding permanent status in ANY job class in the current period of employment with no break in service (separation from State of Alaska employment) since the permanent status was earned.
