The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region, is looking for an Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex (Highway Design Squad Leader) in Anchorage to help us

Base Salary Information:

Engineer/Architect 1:

$3,870.40 biweekly (OT Ineligible)

Engineer/Architect 2:

$4133.60

biweekly (OT Ineligible)

What you will be doing:

In this Design Squad Leader position, you will serve as a registered professional engineer guiding a team in preparing bid-ready plans, specifications, and estimates for highway and/or aviation improvement projects. You will be responsible for the legal approval of project plans, including affixing your professional seal to documents, and for mentoring your team members as they develop the skills and knowledge needed to pursue professional registration. This role offers the opportunity to lead the development of capital improvement projects that preserve and modernize critical infrastructure relied upon by all Alaskans, making a tangible impact on communities across the state.

As a design project engineer you will be responsible for the engineering of highway transportation capital improvement projects for the Department. You will collaborate with multiple functional sections within the Department, lead staff from multiple areas of expertise, coordinate with the design project manager to communicate the design of projects to the public and project stakeholders, and ultimately sign and seal bid ready engineering plans for the construction of highway transportation projects within Central Region, thereby delivering the mission.

The working environment you can expect:

This position resides in the DOT&PF Central Region Headquarters building at 4111 Aviation Avenue in Anchorage, Alaska, and is easily accessible by a paved multi-use path and bus routes 40 and 65. Located on the shore of the beautiful Lake Hood Seaplane Base near Ted Stevens International Airport, the building houses many of the major functions of the region. Travel is occasionally necessary, rarely overnight, and may include flying to remote communities in small aircraft.

Special Note:

Professional Engineer license in the field of Civil Engineering mandatory.

Valid driver's license is preferred but not essential.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer/Architect 1

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Special Note:

Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Engineer/Architect 2

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent.

Special Note:

Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED

This position is flexibly staffed. It may be filled at the

Engineer/Architect 1 or 2

level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
