Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) provides quality behavioral health services to youth, adults, and families in both clinical and community settings. This role supports integrated care delivery by offering counseling services, health promotion activities, and care coordination. Working as part of the Behavioral Health team, the BHA helps ensure continuity of care, supports patient access to services, and contributes to improved mental health and wellness outcomes across the community.

Key Responsibilities

Supports the organization's mission, goals, quality standards, and patient-centered medical home philosophy

Demonstrates KANA's core values of Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride in all interactions and activities

Upholds KANA's Code of Ethics through professional, ethical, and respectful conduct

Develops therapeutic relationships with clients based on empathy, trust, and professionalism

Provides individual, family, and group counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, and elders within scope of certification and experience

Conducts substance use disorder assessments and may facilitate treatment groups as assigned

Participates in clinical supervision and incorporates feedback to improve care delivery and outcomes

Collaborates with the Behavioral Health treatment team, including Case Managers, Intake Coordinators, and other staff to ensure coordinated, patient-centered services

Supports behavioral health services across Kodiak and village communities, including managing caseloads as assigned

Participates in Village Response Teams (VRT) to provide behavioral health and crisis intervention support

Assists with organizing and participating in health promotion activities and substance-free events, including community programs such as Health Fairs, Spirit Camp, and Family Recovery Camps

Provides community education through presentations, outreach, and distribution of health information materials

Offers informal behavioral health support through community engagement, including outreach to individuals not yet connected to formal services

Prepares and submits required reports and activity documentation in accordance with grant and program requirements

Maintains accurate and timely clinical and administrative documentation to ensure compliance with KANA, State of Alaska, Medicaid, and regulatory standards

Supports patient access by assisting with appointment communication, reminders, and addressing potential barriers to care

Attends required staff meetings, supervision sessions, and training programs

Completes required coursework and practicum hours to progress through the Behavioral Health Aide certification levels

Participates in outcome-informed care practices, including Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM), supervision, and feedback integration

Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Completion of an approved program leading to progressive certification as a Behavioral Health Aide/Practitioner (BHA/P) through the Community Health Aide Program Certification Board within the approved timeframe after hire

Work Schedule

KANA's standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (8.5 hours on site per day).

All KANA positions are based in Kodiak and are not eligible for remote work. Applicants must reside in Kodiak or be willing to relocate.
