WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The Administrative Assistant 1 in this position performs professional administrative support to the Alaska Bureau of Investigation (ABI) as well as the MMIP (Murdered/Missing Indigenous Persons) Unit, Major Crimes Unit and Special Crimes Investigation Unit. Administrative duties include financial and special projects tracking, expenditure tracking and reconciliation, processing of personnel forms, payroll, and travel.

Tasks and duties in this position vary. The administrative needs of ABI are robust and ever changing. In this Administrative Assistant 1 position, there are always new and exciting learning opportunities, training, and projects that come up.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

This position is situated inside a secure local law enforcement building in Anchorage. You will have your own cubical in an office environment that includes administrative professionals, commissioned staff, and criminal intelligence professionals.

Strong written, verbal, and detail-oriented communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information.

Attention to detail while working under pressure in a fast-paced environment to ensure accurately entering data into multiple systems, reviewing documents, and processing and routing paperwork and budgetary items.

Strong skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, as well as excellent proofreading and grammar skills.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities from multiple sources while working independently.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

OR

Six months of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)

Special Note:

Examples of advanced clerical experience include:

-Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and searching files and regulations to determine accuracy of information to clarify applicant status; using judgment in applying criteria, rules, regulations, and policies; providing information to organizational unit staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; and completing necessary administrative paperwork according to regulations.

-Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using readily available information from multiple sources and established guidelines and procedures. Examples of such tasks include time sheets, appointment paperwork, or required drug testing notifications for employees in positions requiring possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" is an offense that is (1) a misdemeanor under Federal or state law; and (2) has, as an element, the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian, or by a person similarly situated to a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim.

If you have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, do NOT apply for this position.

BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.

CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
