What You Will Be Doing

The Accounting Technician 1 (AT1) is primarily responsible for performing entry-level technicial accounting functions with little to no supervision. This position works collaboratively with a team of administrative and finance services (AFS) staff to ensure that the DMV administrative and fiscal needs are met, and that financial information is accurate.

This position's duties can include assisting in the processing and tracking of accounts receivable transactions, maintaining accurate records of receivables, performing daily balancing and reconciliation of financial accounts, as well as identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed.

This position may also assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures and provide support to the accounting team as needed, including assistance with audits, research requests, and special projects.

AFS is located at the Univeristy Center, midtown Anchorage.We are nestled in a quiet area of the DMV headquarters and have individual desks located in small pods for easy communication and effective collaboration.

Who We Are Looking For

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and costs methods.

Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.

Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; effectively deals with ambiguity.

Financial Systems: Knowledge of the standards, architecture, and specifications of automated financial systems, including source documents, system flows, system interfaces, and related internal controls.

Minimum Qualifications

Accounting Technician 1

One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Substitutions:

Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

Accounting Technician 2

One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.

Substitutions:

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
